The Family Resource Center recently welcomed preschoolers and their families for a special Sensory Bottle Make-n-Take event with Ms. Petschenko. With 45 families in attendance, the event provided a calming and creative experience that fostered both family engagement and connection to the preschool curriculum.
During the event, families had the opportunity to design and create sensory bottles, which can be used as a tool for self-regulation and relaxation at home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with soft, soothing music and dimmed lights enhancing the sensory-friendly experience. As children explored different materials to fill their bottles, including glitter, heart and letter beads, sequins and all things sparkly, parents and caregivers mingled, sharing experiences and strengthening their sense of community.
Beyond the craft, the event emphasized the importance of family involvement in early childhood education. Parents received a take-home guide explaining how sensory bottles help calm and soothe children by providing a visual and tactile focus point, helping them regulate emotions and also how they can incorporate scientific language, math skills and encourage language.
Throughout the event, both children and adults were captivated by the mesmerizing flow of the bottles, watching the swirling colors and gentle movements create a sense of peace and focus.
Ms. Petschenko expressed her excitement about the event’s success, stating, “It was so amazing to see families creating together, learning about sensory play, and building connections that will extend beyond the classroom.”
The Sensory Bottle Make-n-Take was not just a fun activity but also a valuable opportunity for families to bond, relax, and support their children's learning in a hands-on way. The Family Resource Center looks forward to hosting more interactive events that continue to strengthen the home-school partnership.
