This week, Ms. Carolyn's class transformed their gross motor time into an exciting winter adventure! Bundled up in warm coats, hats, mittens, and boots, students eagerly discovered signs for the Sled Resort, experimented mixing colors in the snow and giggled in the crisp air. Ms. Therese wasted no time making a snow angel and soaking in the sun.
"It's wonderful to see them so engaged with our unit of study," Ms. Carolyn said. "They're learning about the environment in so many different ways while having fun, which is the best way to teach."
Using a tarp and shoe covers, a pretend ice rink was created for students. Giggling and gliding, they took turns "skating" across the slick surface, showing off their best spins and twirls. Next, the class got to work making pretend snow. Mixing baking soda and conditioner using precise measurements with utensils, students couldn’t get enough of the soft, fluffy texture.
To cap off their indoor winter experience, Ms. Petschenko couldn’t help but join the fun and helped them create a fake blizzard. Using a fan and shredded paper, they watched as "snow" swirled around the ice rink. The children laughed and cheered, chasing the paper flakes, catching them in their hands, and some even tried to catch them with their tongues like they would a real snowflake!
Ms. Carolyn’s class was filled with energy and discovery, proving that even the coldest days can be full of warmth and joy when viewed through the eyes of curious preschoolers.
