Preschoolers are celebrating their learning experiences with measuring, mixing, baking, frying, decorating and eating all different types of bread items as they conclude their unit of study this week! Some classrooms are participating in “Pancakes in Pajamas”, while others welcome guest bakers to their classroom, demonstrating how to crack eggs, whisk, use a mixer and how to read a recipe card! You can walk past any classroom at the ELC and smell something delicious in the making!
Students learned a variety of math concepts throughout the Bread Study. One classroom recently voted and graphed if Hawaiian rolls were sweet or not sweet, while another class made muffins and donuts and voted on their favorite between the two. Measuring utensils were utilized to produce recipes as students and teachers read recipe cards, also incorporating literacy skills and following directions. Some really unique sensory experiences were explored, too! Students had the opportunity to grind up different types of grains(oats, corn and barley) and they went elbows deep sifting and filling bowls to maximum capacity. We can't forget about Ms. Tijana, Ms. Jamie and Ms. Martinez's cinnamon playdoh! It smelled so good, some students were almost tempted to eat it, but settled for rolling and creating fun shapes with cookie cutters!
