Preschool students roared with excitement when they discovered they would have the chance to name the school mascot! Students are beginning to learn about decision making as a group as they gain a sense of their importance in the classroom community.

Voting has encouraged students to practice a variety of concepts related to the preschool curriculum. Language and literacy skills are a key factor as students communicated their choices verbally or wrote their name on a post-it to place on their preferred name chart. Charting students’ votes was an authentic way to practice math skills, such as sorting, counting, charting, comparing and number writing and fine motor skills were even practiced as one classroom used stickers to cast their vote.

The polls will remain open for all to vote, and the winning name will be revealed in Tuesday’s edition of the ELC Lion’s Latest News!
