District 123 Summer School students, staff, and families kicked off their annual Summer Programs today at Kolmar Avenue and Hometown Elementary Schools. Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 is offering its 2023 Summer School Programs from June 12th to June 29th and July 10th to 13th, presenting a wide range of educational and enrichment classes for students in PreK-8th grade.
The programs are open to public, private, and parochial school students and cater to diverse interests and age groups. With a unique combination of recreational and educational activities, District 123 promises an engaging experience for its students. Classes range from literacy, math, science, and social studies through the "Launch" program to art, dance, sports, and technology via the "Discovery" program.
"Our goal is to offer an assortment of interesting courses that ignite students' passion for various subjects, ranging from the curious world of science to courses that expose students to the skills and standards in their next grade level,"
said Sarah McIntyre, School District 123 Summer School Principal.
In addition to conventional subjects, the summer courses offer unique options like the Harry Potter class, Summer Spanish Camp, and a unique course dedicated to budding scientists, aptly named the "Curious Scientists." The District 123 summer program strives to ensure a blend of learning and leisure, enabling students to develop new interests in a stimulating environment.
Superintendent Paul Enderle underscored the significance of the summer programs for the community, stating,
"These summer programs are not just 'summer school'; they are another learning opportunity for our community. They allow our students to explore new areas of interest, grow academically, and enjoy their summer break in a meaningful way. Learning should never be confined to just the four walls of the classroom or the school year. I can't overstate how important this opportunity is for our students to continue learning, exploring, and enjoying their youth in a safe and enriching environment."
