At the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Board of Education meeting on February 27, 2023, the Board of Education approved Ms. Ashley Holland as the new principal of Covington Elementary school. Ms. Holland brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, having spent the last 20 years in the south suburbs as a teacher, principal, and district office administrator.
Ms. Holland began her career as a classroom teacher in Evergreen Park School District 124 in 2004. While in Evergreen Park, she earned master's degrees in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction with an ESL focus, and Instructional Technology. In 2015, Ms. Holland joined the Ridgeland 122 School District team as their Instructional Technology Coordinator, where she focused on embedding technology into daily instructional best practices.
In 2018, Ms. Holland became the principal of Heather Hill Elementary School in Flossmoor School District 161. During her time there, Ms. Holland achieved numerous accomplishments, including receiving Exemplary status from the Illinois State Board of Education, being awarded the National Showcase School recognition from the Capturing Kids Hearts organization in 2022, and being recognized by the Midwest PBIS Network for their PBIS program in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Ms. Holland and her family are excited to join the Covington community. They have two children, Bobby and Georgia, and two giant dogs, Walter and Bruce. They enjoy watching movies, doing home projects, and watching car racing in their free time.
