With the 2024-25 school year about to begin, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 welcomed new staff members with a three-day orientation from August 12 to 14.
Orientation sessions included presentations on D123 policies & procedures, the curriculum, school safety protocols, and behavior management in the classroom. Educators participated in activities that they can use in their classrooms such as circle conversations. This is an engaging way for students and staff to promote thoughtful discussions and active listening.
Monday concluded with a bus tour of the District, where staff members learned their way around each building and historical facts about the schools.
New staff also met with their mentors, received training in the new Illustrative Mathematics/Connected Mathematics curriculum, and started setting up their classrooms for the first day of school.
Next week will begin with Opening Institute Days for all staff members to prepare for the 2024-25 school year before welcoming students back into the classrooms starting August 21.
