Current 8th grade District 123 Student, Bhargav Sampathkumaran, and alum Nathan Brodsky are headed to the prestigious Illinois Math and Science Academy in the Fall. Brodsky who graduated from OLHMS last year, will enter as a Sophmore and Bhargav has been accepted as a Freshman to the school, a rare occurrence.

“Math is my favorite subject.  It is a very interesting subject.  The world of mathematics can be applied to other things too.  Lately, I’ve been increasingly interested in economics.  It has been my goal since 3rd grade to get into IMSA.  I know it is a really good school.  I want to get the full residential experience as well,” said Sampathkumaran.

Sampathkumaran feels his passion for Math and Science and the relationships he built while at school helped him to accomplish his dream of attending IMSA.

“All the school rules here are very similar here to the ones at IMSA.  The teachers here have supported me throughout the application process.  They have written recommendation letters for me.  Even Dr. Gavin wrote me a recommendation letter for me to get into a biology program,” he said.

The Illinois Math and Science Academy typically only accepts applications for the incoming sophomore class and even then only one-third of the applicants are accepted.
