The Sward Team Helping Other Teams

At Sward School, the motto is "Soaring to New Heights," and Lamar, a fifth-grade student, exemplified that and more with her idea to help others.

“Lamar approached me during morning supervision and expressed her empathy for the families, firefighters, and animals affected by the California wildfires. She was motivated to organize a spirit day to raise donations for those impacted by the disaster. Lamar believed our Sward team could support the teams in California working together. She organized a student council meeting, and her classmates unanimously agreed with her idea,” stated Mrs. Coennen, Student Council Sponsor.

When asked about her project, Lamar said:
“This is my second year as a member of the student council. Last year, we organized a spirit day to support the people of Hawaii, and I remember how meaningful that experience was. I wanted to help again—I wanted to support the people and animals in need. It is important to help people. On Friday, January 24th, Sward hosted a spirit day to raise funds for the California teams helping others. We raised $480. Thank you, Sward!”

Mrs. Katalinic shared, “We are so proud of Lamar. She exemplifies strong leadership qualities, and her kindness is contagious. As student council sponsors, Mrs. Coennen and I strive to cultivate leadership skills that empower students to act independently and with confidence.”
