On Friday, November 17th, Sward's 1st grade celebrated the culmination of their "Human Body" unit in CKLA (our new ELA curriculum) with a fun-filled day of activities. Students a.k.a. "Doctors" from Abbott Community Hospital, Garcia General Hospital and McCorry Memorial Hospital all converged on Sward School to perform a variety of operations. Each student was equipped with their very own lab coat, gloves, surgical cap and stethescope. Resident attending doctors, "Dr. Abbott," "Dr. Garcia" & "Dr. McCorry" supervised our young "pediatricians" as they made their rounds to each operating table and worked together to solve body system puzzles, medicine matching, germ and vaccine memory, sorting foods into nutritional groups, taking "x-rays" of their hands, diagnosing stuffed animals, scultping body parts with playdoh, body part BINGO, playing "Operation" and having a skeleton snack. Thank you to our wonderful 1st grade teachers for making learning so memorable for these first graders!
