In just a few weeks, Mrs. Collura will say farewell to fourth grade as she heads into retirement. We decided to interview Mrs. Collura to find out a little bit more about her teaching career.
How long have you worked at Sward? In the district?
"I have worked for 23 years at Sward, 10 years at Kolmar, and 1 year at the Science Center, for a total of 34 years."
What grade levels have you taught in over your career?
"Over the years I have taught grades 3 through 6 in the classroom and one year of seeing Kindergarten through grade 5 students at the Science Center."
What is your favorite thing to teach?
"My favorite subject to teach is Social Studies."
Who inspired you to be a teacher?
"My 4th grade teacher inspired me. Mrs. Webber, she really made learning fun and treated everyone with kindness and respect."
What are you most proud of that you've done as a teacher?
"I am the most proud of the connections I have made with the students. I feel that when the students really know you care about them it is easier to teach. Getting through to some of the struggling learners is so fulfilling."
What are you looking forward to the most in retirement?
"I am looking forward to not setting my alarm! I am not a morning person!"
What do you hope Sward students will remember about you?
"I hope my love of teaching was obvious to them and they remember that I wanted to make learning fun so they hopefully developed a love for learning in the future."
Well we know for a fact Mrs. Collura has left a last impression on her students over the years and they will remember her for the outstanding teacher she is. We will definitely miss you Mrs. Collura but we wish you all the best in your retirement!
