Yesterday, Sward fourth graders built solar-powered circuits as part of their science unit "Energy Conversions". Mrs. Collura, Mrs. Ignacek and Mrs. Mensinga gave students a bag of supplies and instructions that they needed to figure out how to build the circuit to make a motor run and then spin the fan. Students worked with partners, but all had to participate in assembling the circuit. In their next lesson, students will draw the schematic in their notebooks, label the parts, and describe what their functions are. This hands-on experiment will help students solve the bigger problem of why a town is having blackouts and how to understand alternate sources of energy. One of Mrs. Collura's students said "It was really fun to learn something new by building a circuit!"
