Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 provides the opportunity for college students who are studying to become teachers to join our school learning communities. At Sward, we have the pleasure of hosting two student teachers in our Encore department.
Ms. Gardner is partnering with Mrs. Schiestel’s Physical Education classes. She is studying Physical Education at Northern Illinois University. When we spoke to her about her student teaching experience these first few weeks of school, she stated “I love building relationships with all of the students at Sward.”
Ms. Castro is studying Music Education from Trinity Christian College. Ms. Castro is collaborating with Mrs. Glikis, Sward’s Music Teacher. She shared, “ I love that I am able to get to enjoy learning from another amazing music teacher. Being a student teacher is just one step closer to graduation and becoming a certified teacher.”
Additionally, we have new staff members joining us. Welcome Ms. Nicholas and Ms. Smith from our new preschool classroom. They are excited to meet new friends and teachers at Sward. And their students cannot wait to play in the amazing learning garden.
Ms. McCorry joins Sward’s first grade team. She is “excited to be immersed into the Sward School community this year! I look forward to making many meaningful connections with all of our staff and students, especially my first grade class!"
We welcome back Ms. Lettiere as a Fifth Grade Teacher. Ms. Lettiere shared, “I love being back in the classroom and building a strong community within my room."
Welcome to Sward, hope all of you have a wonderful school.
