When a fifth-grade student at Sward, Maggie, heard that local healthcare workers were having trouble getting protective face coverings she knew there was a way she could help. Maggie is a passionate fashion designer, and most currently has been working as a costume designer for the Sward Spring Drama Club, however, she traded in costumes for custom face masks.
“I heard that first responders and healthcare workers were having trouble getting masks and gloves and I wanted to help. Especially since my aunt is a nurse,” said Maggie.
And so she started working, developing a simple pattern for the masks to cover the nose and mouth and went from there. Maggie will donate her masks to Palos Hospital (where her aunt works) in an effort to help the staff there. She has also made them for family and friends to wear while out and about.
