4/17 – District 123 Schools Closed through End of Academic Year – Letter from the Superintendent

Letter-from-the-Superintendent

April 17, 2020 – The following is a letter that was sent from Superintendent Paul Enderle to the District123 community regarding recent school closure and coronavirus information.

District 123 schools remain closed through the end of the academic year.

Good evening,

This afternoon, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that he is closing the state’s schools for all in-person instruction through the end of the academic year. This means that all school districts across the state will continue with remote learning until the end of the school year. By shutting down school buildings for the rest of the year, Illinois will join 27 other states and 3 U.S. territories that have taken the same action.

This announcement was not entirely unexpected, however, we are deeply saddened that we cannot fill our classrooms again with the energy of our community’s children. While our buildings may remain closed, the learning that is currently happening every day will continue. During the remainder of the school year, District 123 will continue to provide high-quality remote learning experiences to our students, and Grab & Go meals to those in our community. Thank you for your ongoing support, flexibility, and connectedness as we work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for the health and wellness of our entire learning community.

With this decision, District 123 can now officially begin working together with our numerous student, staff and parent advisory groups regarding end-of-year events and procedures. While the end of the year may look different, we are working hard to conclude our school year in the meaningful and positive way that we are accustomed. As future school district decisions are made, we will remain committed to providing our community the most timely and accurate information as we move toward the end of our school year. We will continue to host weekly Community Updates on the District 123 Facebook page on Wednesdays at noon. The latest information regarding the school closure can also always be found at d123.org/coronavirus

Please stay safe and remain vigilant in the guidance provided to us from local, state and federal agencies. We continue to stand together with you during this time and remain committed to our students, staff and families.

Sincerely,
Paul J. Enderle Ed.D
Superintendent
