Cracking the Code of Life: OLHMS Students Hatch Quail Eggs!

Cracking the Code of Life: OLHMS Students Hatch Quail Eggs!

Students at OLHMS are getting an up-close look at nature in action thanks to an exciting hands-on learning experience led by Officer Craig. With quail eggs provided by Wild Harts Farm, students have been guided through the delicate incubation process, watching life unfold right before their eyes.

Over the course of 17 days, small groups worked closely with Officer Craig, who followed a step-by-step curriculum to teach them about the science behind egg incubation. From setting the eggs in the incubator to monitoring temperature and humidity levels, students learned about the dedication and precision required to successfully hatch baby quails.

The excitement peaked when the tiny quails finally hatched, marking a memorable moment for all involved. For now, the baby quails will call the OLHMS media center home, giving students a chance to observe their early development. After spring break, the quails will return to Wild Harts Farm, where they will continue to grow under Officer Craig’s care.

This project has not only brought science to life but also fostered curiosity, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for nature among OLHMS students.
