OLHMS students participated in an inspiring Leadership Day at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, where they engaged in thought-provoking discussions, interactive programs, and leadership-building activities. Designed for 7th and 8th graders, the event aimed to empower young leaders with the tools to promote acceptance, understanding, and positive change within their communities.
Throughout the day, students explored the museum’s powerful exhibits, gaining a deeper understanding of the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights issues. The experience was further enriched by a special presentation from Steve Sheinkin, a New York Times Bestselling author known for bringing history to life through his nonfiction books. Each participating school received a copy of his latest book, Impossible Escape.
The event concluded with students developing an action plan to bring back to their school, ensuring that the lessons learned extend beyond the museum walls. By fostering leadership and advocacy, these young changemakers are now equipped to make a meaningful impact in their own communities.
