Spreading Love and Friendship at OLHMS

Spreading Love and Friendship at OLHMS

Our school recently held a Valentine's FlowerGram sale, which was a huge success thanks to the hard work and collaboration of staff and students from the CASE (Communication-Academic-Social-Emotional) program. The students played a key role in organizing and preparing the flowers and cards for the sale, learning valuable life skills in the process.

With support from the CASE Team, the students engaged in various tasks that fostered their development. For example, they worked on fine motor skills when arranging the flowers and organizing cards, while also practicing communication and social skills as they worked together and interacted with others. This also provided our students an opportunity to practice sequencing tasks, following directions, and using money handling strategies. The students also gained hands-on experience with money, learning how to make change, manage transactions, and practice counting as they handled the sale proceeds.

To further enrich the experience, student ambassadors from the general education population served as peer models for the CASE students. These ambassadors provided positive role models for social interactions, modeling appropriate communication and helping with tasks such as organizing and distributing flower grams. This partnership not only supported the CASE students' growth but also helped foster a sense of inclusion and community throughout the school.

In the end, the Valentine's FlowerGram sale was a heartwarming success, offering students a meaningful, hands-on opportunity to build life skills, improve communication, and practice social-emotional learning, all while engaging with their peers and making a positive impact on the school community.
