Panda Express and the Lunar New Year!

Panda Express and the Lunar New Year!

OLHMS Global Studies students were buzzing with excitement as they dove into the rich traditions of the Lunar New Year, with a little help from Panda Express! Kicking off the lesson, Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. Weber shared how Lunar New Year is one of the most celebrated holidays in the world. Observed for thousands of years, this holiday is celebrated in countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and China, as well as in cities around the globe. To honor its global significance, we use the term "Lunar New Year" instead of "Chinese New Year."

Thanks to Panda Express, students explored an interactive online portal packed with engaging activities. They learned how to speak Chinese, uncovered dragon trivia, and delved into the symbolism of traditional foods. They also discovered fascinating facts about global traditions, lantern festivals, and the significance of red envelopes in bringing good luck.

In the media center, students rotated through hands-on activity stations. They practiced writing in Chinese, crafted snake masks, and created paper fortune cookies. Each activity brought the traditions of Lunar New Year to life, encouraging students to connect with the holiday’s cultural and historical significance.

To wrap up the experience, every student received a sticker pack and a voucher for a free Cub Meal from Panda Express as a token of appreciation for their participation and enthusiasm.

Through this immersive lesson, students not only learned about the rich heritage of the Lunar New Year but also gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity of global celebrations. Thank you, Panda Express, for helping make this unforgettable learning experience possible!
