6th and 7th Grade Awards Breakfasts & Field Trips

OLHMS celebrated its students’ achievements with awards breakfasts and thrilling field trips. The 6th and 7th-grade students were honored in back-to-back awards assemblies, followed by exciting outings that created lasting memories.

The 6th Grade Awards Breakfast took place on Tuesday, May 21st, while the 7th Grade Awards Breakfast was held the following day, Wednesday, May 22nd. Both events featured a delightful continental breakfast and a coffee bar, generously provided by the PTSA. These breakfasts served as a celebration for students who had excelled in their studies and demonstrated outstanding leadership and citizenship. The honored students included those who had received the Student of the Month accolade in their core classes and the prestigious Trimester Mustang Award from their team of teachers.

Wednesday also saw the 6th graders embarking on an adventurous field trip to Hollywood Park in Crestwood. The students spent the day immersing themselves in a variety of activities, including playing games, enjoying rides, and winning prizes. The concession area provided a perfect spot for relaxation and socializing. Sixth-grader Danny F. shared his excitement about the trip, saying, "The best part of the field trip was the go-karts even though I wasn't very good at driving them."

Meanwhile, the 7th graders enjoyed a cultural and scenic experience in downtown Chicago at Navy Pier. Their day included an architecture and sightseeing cruise along the Chicago River, offering a unique perspective of the city’s iconic skyline. Sammie J., a 7th grader, reflected on the experience with enthusiasm: "The girl who gave us the tour was so nice and funny. The water was so pretty and the breeze was really relaxing!"

As the school year starts to wind down, these Mustangs are ready for the fun summer will bring!
