Second Session of Xello!

Second Session of Xello!

On Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th, Mrs. Vanessa Follmar visited our 8th grade classrooms to teach the second Xello! session. Xello! is a personalized education program where students have an opportunity to gain information about colleges and careers.

In this Xello! session, Mrs. Follmar explained to students that a focus for session two would have students discussing and exploring a variety of professions, their learning styles, and personalities. Mrs. Follmar created a “thumb ball” that had various professions written on the ball. Once the ball was tossed to a student, they saw which profession their thumb landed on. From there, students answered one of the following questions: what two skills are needed for this profession; what is one thing that is exciting and/or rewarding about this profession; and what is one thing that is scary and/or frustrating about this profession. Students explored professions such as an architect, electrician, doctor, and more! From there, students explored more about themselves and depended on their understanding of professions they are interested in.

Students also completed a matchmaking portion of Xello!, which included students answering questions determining their learning style and personality. Xello! then presented each students’ data showing what learning style best fits them: visual, audio, or tactile learner. Students transitioned to the personality task, which determined if they are more of a builder, thinker, creator, helper, persuader, and/or organizer.

Students are looking forward to the third and final session of Xello! in the upcoming months!
