OLHMS Mustangs celebrated the D123 Community on 1-23 day (January 23rd)! District 123 has been serving the Oak Lawn and Hometown communities since 1902. Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School has been operating since 2005 and bringing staff, students, and community members together in memorable ways.
123 Day started with a Great American Bagel breakfast for staff members in the lounge. Staff was asked to represent our unity as a team by wearing their new District 123 shirt provided by Administration in the beginning of the school year. On the back of the shirt is the famous quote from S. E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, “If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything…” Students were also asked to wear their OLHMS spirit wear to celebrate in 123 Day festivities!
The most exciting part of the day was at 1:23 pm when The Jackson 5’s ABC was played over the PA system for 123 seconds. Staff and students were singing and dancing the entire time celebrating their commitment to District 123. It’s as easy as 1-2-3 celebrating our amazing district!
When asked about what makes OLHMS and District 123 so great, 6th grader Tahiyya shared, “The teachers and other adults at OLHMS and in the District are always so nice and help me whenever I need it. I’m lucky to go to school here!”
