The OLHMS boys’ volleyball team is serving up quite the season under the direction of coaches Mike Fisher and Moises Lopez. The 8th grade team stands at 3rd place with a (5-1) record, just right behind Evergreen (6-0) and Palos (6-0). The boys were rolling through the start of the season with back-to-back wins defeating strong teams including the Orland Eagles, Jerling Jayhawks, Grissom Patriots, and Century Wildcats. The team was challenged in their 5th match resulting in their first loss of the season against the Prairie View Eagles. In the match, the boys struggled in the first set with a 13-25 loss, came back with a strong 25-20 win in the second set, and fell short in a nail-biting tie breaker by two points (25-27) in the third set. The team did bounce back in their most recent match against the Tinley Twisters with final score of 25-20, 16-25, 25-20.
The 7th grade team is standing in 7th place with a (3-3) record. The team has had strong wins against noteworthy teams including the Orland Eagles, Jerling Jayhawks, and the Prarie View Eagles. In the most recent win against the Eagles, the team faced adversity and had a tough loss in the first set (13-25), but were able to bounce back in the second set resulting in a 25-17 win, followed by a tie breaking 3rd set win with a final score of 25-21. Both teams gear up as they prepare for their next match against the Palos South Cardinals set for Monday, 11/13. Way to go, Mustangs!
