The 7th annual 6k “Walk for Water” was held this past Saturday, September 23rd. In conjunction with World Vision, D123 community members raised funds and awareness for clean water projects and education for the children of Africa. This year, 130 members joined the walk with over 40 staff members who volunteered to assist in the planning and execution of the walk. Mrs. Heather McCarthy and Mrs. Kathy Ogean worked together to make this event a success!
“It was a beautiful day for our community to come together to help bring clean water to the children of Africa,” shared Heather McCarthy, OLHMS Media Specialist. “It was amazing to see all the students, staff, and community members cheering for each other and showing support for this important cause.”
Many D123 and OLHMS students were excited and showed their enthusiasm during the walk and raised over $3,000 for World Vision! You could see lots of smiling faces throughout the course. Some participants ran, some walked, and some even skipped throughout the race. We saw some fun costumes and accessories, and everyone really enjoyed the cowbells and cheers as they made their way to the finish line.
Kathy Ogean, 7th Grade Math Teacher reflected on the day, “Over 50 volunteers (mainly teachers and staff) helped make the day happen! There were also almost 75 WONDERFUL student volunteers who worked the water stations and notified neighbors about the race. Proud to be a Mustang!”
