OLHMS Concert Band and Chorus did it again! Another SUPERIOR rating was achieved at the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) State Festival on Saturday, April 29th! The Concert Band performed at Lockport High School in Lockport, Illinois while the Concert Chorus performed at Lisle High School in Lisle, Illinois.
In March, Concert Band and Chorus earned a Division 1 rating qualifying them for the State competition!
The OLHMS Concert Band students traveled alongside their teachers, Mrs. Beth Lyons and Mr. John Kehl, OLHMS Band Directors, to perform for the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) District VI State Band Contest. The music selections included “Night Fury” by Carol Brittin Chambers, “As Twilight Falls” by Robert Sheldon, and “Loyalty March” by Larry Clark. We are pleased to announce the Concert Band received the SUPERIOR rating! Congratulations, Concert Band!
The OLHMS Concert Chorus performed “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?” by Greg Gilpin, “Oceans and Stars” by Amy Bernon, and “Ad Astra” by Jacob Narverud. After the performance, students received a clinic to work on their pieces from one of the judges and received a SUPERIOR rating! Ms. Kayla Hughes, OLHMS Music teacher and Choir Director, commented on the State performance saying, “This was my first year taking the students to compete, and I am thrilled with their performances! Good work to all of our Musical Mustangs!”
OLHMS is proud of their Music programs and how successful our Mustangs and Directors have been this school year!
