This Thursday, April 27th from 7:00-8:30pm, OLHMS is hosting the annual Art Show! OLHMS is part of District 123 Art Show, and it is a special event to showcase and celebrate the artistic talents of our OLHMS students in the Library and Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, and Sward will be held in the Main Gym. This year, there are over 175 OLHMS student artists that are participating in the Art Show. The Art Show is invitation-only for students and their families to attend and look around the art exhibit. During the school day this Thursday, students will have an opportunity to explore the art exhibit and admire their peers’ artwork.
Students in Ms. Petraitis’ art class have opportunities on a daily basis to work on and create new artwork. For students to produce their work, they used a variety of tools, such as colored pencils, crayons, markers, pencils, construction paper, craft cord, and watercolor paints. Not only have students become familiar with these utensils, they have also become familiar with art concepts and techniques, such as mixed media, value scales, drawing, symmetry, collage, watercolor painting, and weaving. As students learned how to properly use various tools and art concepts, they applied these new skills to their artwork and brought it to life. The projects for the art show focus on an Element of Art and/or Principle of Design, art movement, or the style of a specific artist. When Ara Mae was asked how she feels about her art being selected, she said “it is an honor to have my art selected for this year’s Art Show! I’m really happy and excited that my art will be on display for everyone to see.”
Thank you to all of our OLHMS students for participating, all of the families for supporting our students, and Ms. Petraitis for putting the D123 2023 Art Show together!
