27 of OLHMS’ eSports athletes had the opportunity to visit Saint Xavier University on March 23rd to meet with their eSports team! During the field trip, the OLHMS eSports team met with two collegiate athletes who shared some insight into their program. The biggest takeaway from the visit was that the SXU eSports team is like a family - they all rely on each other and work together in everything they do. One of the eSports members is an accounting major and the other is a future oncologist. SXU eSports athletes are choosing different career paths, but their love for gaming brings them together!
SXU eSports athletes also shared how they travel for their tournaments and what life is like at a university. They even gave some of the eSports OLHMS some advice and tips when it comes to college! They explained how students should take general education classes before deciding on a major, how to apply for and receive scholarships, and the college application process. It was great that our eSports athletes were not only able to see a collegiate level eSports team but also get some insight into higher education.
SXU eSports Coach Daniels talked with OLHMS eSports athletes about how eSports is constantly evolving and changing. He also showed the kids some “swag” and gave them a full tour of the gaming facility. The OLHMS team was in awe of each of the gaming rooms, where the varsity squad practices, and where they stream on Twitch. After the tour, OLHMS eSports athletes were treated to a viewing of a Super Smash Bros competition between Saint Xavier and Saint Francis.
