OLHMS was ecstatic to host the 10th annual Variety Show event on Thursday, March 23rd! Variety Show is entertainment that consists of different acts, which typically include musical performances, cultural dances, comedy acts, and much more. At OLHMS, our Variety show is a show created by kids intended for kids. Every year, the proceeds from the Variety Show go to a children's foundation of OLHMS students’ choosing. In the past, OLHMS students have decided to donate proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House, Illinois Burn Camp for Children, Feed My Starving Children, Live Like Abby, and several other children organizations. This year, our OLHMS students decided to donate proceeds to Cradles for Crayons, an organization that helps children from birth through age 12 with everyday essentials.
For our 10th annual Variety Show, tryouts were held and students were selected to perform their act on stage. This year, we have a mixture of all grade-level students performing cultural dances, skits, comedy routines, and much more.
When Emely, an 8th grade student, was asked what the Variety Show meant to her, she said “The Variety Show is an opportunity to showcase my skills and show people my culture so they can learn about it. I absolutely love the Variety Show because everyone has a smile on their face, and it makes me feel good. My favorite part is seeing my mom smile in the audience.”
Thank you to all our OLHMS students, Mrs. Harrington, and Ms. Kennedy for their hard work and dedication- the Variety Show was a success!
