After endless hours of practice, our 6/7th boys basketball team won the SWIC Conference Championship and our 8th grade Mustangs won 3rd place in the SWIC Conference.
In the 6/7th grade boys basketball game, our OLHMS Mustangs took on Evergreen Park for gold. From the start of the game, our Mustangs found and never got defeated, even when they trailed late in the game. Throughout the game, Danny S. Shay L., and Angel C. dominated. They did an excellent job on both the offensive and defensive end, but Angel C. Really stepped up to help the Mustangs beat Evergreen Park. At the end of the 3rd quarter, our Mustangs were down by 7, but they did not fold. Because of Angel’s energy and buckets, the Mustangs took the lead late in the 4th quarter to win the SWIC Tournament. Not only did our 6/7th grade boys win the tournament, but Shay L. won tournament MVP.
For our 8th grade boys basketball team, they played Grissom for 3rd place this past Saturday. From start to finish, the boys gave it their all. It came down to the wire with about a minute left to play, and the Mustangs were down by a few points. In the end, OLHMS stayed and played together to win 3rd place in the SWIC Tournament. Overall, our 8th grade boys also won 1st place in the division, and Logan S. and Carter G. were honored with SWIC All Conference. When Carter G. was asked to reflect on his career here at OLHMS, he said “my career at OLHMS was fun, especially playing for Mr. Fisher, having different teammates over the past few years, and making it far in the SWIC Tournament.” We are so proud of our OLHMS boys basketball program, and thankful to Coach Dare and Coach Fisher for and their dedication to our program!
