The OLHMS Cheerleading program hosted their first competition showcase on Saturday, January 28th. The Southside Spirit Showdown included 10 teams that competed for first place in the Southside! OLHMS Cheerleading coaches Nuhie Faheem and Julie Owens organized the entire event with help from the OLHMS cheerleaders and families who volunteered their time to make this event spectacular! Ms. Maan was the MC for the day and made sure the crowd was upbeat and energized while they watched their cheerleaders perform. Ms. DiSalvo helped organize teams backstage prior to their performance.
Teams saw a variety of different routines and performances by local cheer squads. Ms. Faheem and Mrs. Owens would like to thank the cheer programs who attended as well as their coaches, cheerleaders, and organizers:
- Barack Obama Learning Academy, located in Markham
- Central Middle School, located in Tinley Park
- Eisenhower Junior High, located in Darien
- Jesse White Learning Academy, located in Hazel Crest
- Moving Everest Charter School, located in Chicago
- Old Quarry Middle School, located in Lemont
- Palos South Middle School, located in Palos Park
- Washington Junior High, located in Riverdale
- Wilkins Junior High, located in Justice
- Yorkville Middle School, located in Yorkville
While judges tallied score sheets, our very own OLHMS cheerleading team performed their own routine for everyone. Eisenhower Junior High stole the crown (and trophy) as first place winners! Moving Everest Charter School took second place, and Yorkville rounded out as the third place winners.
OLHMS is looking forward to hosting another competition next year!
