Last week, our OLHMS Boys Basketball Program played against Palos, Liberty, and Evergreen. Our 6/7th grade team played with heart and fight winning two out of three games, while our 8th grade team played together and stayed composed in every situation, winning all three of their games.
During the Palos game, our 6/7th grade team had a nail-biting 27-26 point win. The Mustangs were down by six points going into the 4th quarter, but they rallied back to beat Palos by one point. During the 8th grade game against Palos, our Mustangs had a huge 20 point lead going into halftime. Carter, Logan, and Jake were on fire from the 3, and Mateo dominated downlow. Coming out of the half, Palos readjusted and came back, but our Mustangs held Palos and won with a final score of 43-39.
After the 6/7th and 8th grade teams beat Liberty by 20 plus points, they played Evergreen last Thursday. In the game against Evergreen, the 6/7th grade boys had a nail-biting loss against Evergreen in overtime. The Mustangs were battling for the lead the entire game, and were up by four points with a few minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Evergreen scored two buckets towards the end of the 4th quarter, tying the game at 26. After the regulation play ended, our Mustangs had a tough loss in overtime. Although our 6/7th grade boys team lost, our 8th grade team fought to the end and beat Evergreen by a few buckets! Our Mustangs were trailing for the majority of the game, but Carter hit four 3’s that helped the Mustangs clinch the win over Evergreen, leaving them 4-0. Keep up your great work, Mustangs!
