The past two weeks, our Lady Mustang program showcased their talent in the 2022 SWIC Conference Tournament. In the second round of the tournament, our 6/7th grade Lady Mustangs played Evergreen. After beating Evergreen in a nail biting win, our Lady Mustangs moved on to play the #2 seed- Palos South. During the semi-final game against Palos South, our girls left everything they had on the court. Unfortunately, Palos South beat our Lady Mustangs by a few baskets. But their season wasn’t over there. The 6/7th grade team played Century, the #1 seed, for third place. During that game, everyone stepped up and brought their A game. Sofia F. had several 3’s; Nadine had endless rebounds and took the ball to the basket; Maddie had key fast break points; and Reese was scrappy on defense, which forced several turnovers. Our Lady Mustangs beat Century by two points, winning 3rd place in the SWIC Conference Tournament!
For our 8th grade Lady Mustangs, the tournament started in the second round against Evergreen. Our girls started the tournament strong with an eight point win over Evergreen, then faced the undefeated Palos South team in the semi-final game. Our ladies played their hearts out and left everything they had on the court. Unfortunately, Palos South beat our Lady Mustangs by a few points, but the loss did not hold our girls down. OLHMS took on Jerling for 3rd place, and they earned sweet revenge on the Jayhawks. During the regular season, our Lady Mustangs lost to Jerling by six points but during last Saturday’s 3rd place game, our Lady Mustangs beat Jerling by nine points. To start the game off, OLHMS went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter. The girls played impeccable defense, they moved the ball around on offense, and had fun in their last game as a Lady Mustang. The win on Saturday earned the 8th grade girls team 3rd place in the SWIC Conference Tournament!
Coach Carmody and Coach Danos are so proud of their girls for all of their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout this season, and they cannot wait to see what amazing future the Lady Mustangs will have on and off the court!
