September 11th, 2001. A day of loss, sorrow, devastation, tragedy, and despondency. Men and women left their homes that day just like they always have, but the unthinkable occurred. Around 3,000 people did not make it back to their homes that night because they were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack.
To honor and remember those who lost their lives, 8th grade Social Studies teachers Mrs. Georgelos and Mr. Mamolella took all of their students on a walking field trip to the 9/11 Memorial at the Oak Lawn Patriot Station. 8th grade student Liv stated, “I loved learning more about 9/11 and walking to the 9/11 memorial with my classmates. I think that it’s really important to learn about 9/11 so we can continue to honor those who were killed and those who risked their lives to help. It’s an important part of America’s history and even the world’s history.”
