Last week, our OLHMS staff and scholars welcomed our future Mustangs! 5th grade students from Hannum, Sward, Kolmar, Covington, and Hometown Elementary School were welcomed at the front of our building by Dr. McNichols and Dr. Hantson to start their day off. Awaiting our future Mustangs were 8th grade Ambassadors and our school counselors ready to assist with the exciting day.
When students entered their future middle school, they were in awe. Phrases like, “Wooow” and “Ohh my gosh!” were whispered as students entered the main hallway. After 5th grade students were welcomed into the building, they were divided into small groups and led by 8th grade Ambassadors, Dr. McNichols, Dr. Hantson, and school counselors, who provided them with information and answered any question(s) they had. As 5th grade students went on a tour around the building with our leaders, they met teachers, support staff, and current OLHMS students. When one student from Hannum was asked what he liked most about OLHMS so far, he said that “everyone here is so nice! I can’t wait to go to school here!” As students continued on their tour, they were able to visit classrooms, have a Q & A session with a panel of 8th grade students, learn more about OLHMS, get acclimated with the building, and receive an OLHMS t-shirt from our wonderful PTSA!
