It’s been two long years since the soccer players of OLHMS have seen the green, grassy field! Mr. Fanjoy, Boys Soccer Head Coach, and Ms. Brodko, Girls Soccer Head Coach, were thrilled to finally get back to coaching their incredible athletes. More than 100 students tried out for the soccer team – more than we’ve ever seen before! Mr. Fanjoy stated that choosing this team was the most difficult decision he’s made as a coach. The talent of these scholars and their dedication to succeed on the field has been inspiring for both coaches.
At our last boys soccer game, our boys took on the Prairie View Eagles. It was neck and neck the entire game up until the last moment. Josemy, our goalie, had several fantastic saves to keep the game close, and Edgar scored both goals to keep our Mustangs in the game. With a tied score of 2-2, the game went into sudden death. In sudden death play, our Mustangs fell to the Eagles 3-2. Despite the boys first loss, they are off to a phenomenal start with an overall record of 3-1. For our Lady Mustangs, they played their hearts out last Thursday against Prairie View. Despite our lady's loss, they are optimistic and eager to get better. Alex, one of our 8th grade Lady Mustangs, stated that she and her teammates “always stay together, support one another, and keep a positive mindset. We are ready to get our first win next game!”
OLHMS Soccer typically utilizes the McGugan field for their home games. The recent weather has been a challenge, so thankfully our community neighbors at St. Linus have allowed the teams to host their home games at their field. The next home game for the girls is Monday, April 25th at 4:30 pm followed by the boys at 5:30 pm. Come cheer on these amazing Mustangs! We look forward to watching them grow as players the rest of the season!
