This past Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th, our OLHMS boys and girls bowling teams competed and advanced to State! From the start of this season, our student-athletes have put in an endless amount of time and work to get better. Our four boys representing our bowling team at State, who were coached by Ms. Allison, were Justin C., David B., Peter G., and Charles D., and our three girls representing our bowling team at State, who were coached by Ms. Brodko, were Sanaya V., Jolie O., and Sofia M. The Mustangs’ dedication and hard work paid off during Sectionals and State.
On Friday, the Mustangs traveled to Joliet, where the boys competed in three games on Friday and six games on Saturday. There were 32 teams across the state of Illinois, some being from Homer Glen, Minooka, and other areas. The boys won first place at Sectionals and advanced to State as a team. At Sectionals, Peter G. took first place as an individual; Davide B. took fourth place as an individual, and Justin C. took sixth place as an individual. As a team, the boys advanced to State and took fifth place overall. For our girls bowling team, they played as individuals at Sectionals. Sofia M., Sanaya V., and Jolie O. all advanced to State, but none of them advanced to the second day of competition. With the bowling season wrapping up this past weekend, some student-athletes expressed how they have bowled competitively before, while others took on competitive bowling for the first time this year.
With this being Justin C.’s first year of competitive bowling, he reflected on this exciting and new experience. When Justin was asked how his 8th grade bowling season went, he stated that “it was really fun and a great experience, especially working together and competing together as a team.” Justin also said that he is “definitely planning on pursuing and trying out for the bowling team when [he] attends Oak Lawn Community High School!” We are so proud of our boys and girls bowling teams for their hard work and achievements this season.
