Every year on December 10th, Human Rights Day is supported by countless individuals around the world who write a letter for someone they have never met. Write for Rights is Amnesty International’s largest annual letter writing campaign where people write letters on behalf of other individuals who need critical help due to previous human rights being abused. In our #OLHMS 8th grade classrooms, scholars wrote a letter on behalf of individuals to help defend their human rights. After learning about the Write for Rights 2021 year’s human rights cases, scholars wrote a letter in support of a case of their choice to help bring attention and justice to individuals whose human rights have been violated. These letters are sent to and arrive at government offices, which are then sent to families all over the world. When letters are written, change occurs, hope grows, and human rights are restored.
