New OLHMS Principal Announced
Good Afternoon OLHMS School Community,
At last night’s School District 123 Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Sean McNichols as Principal of Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School commencing the 2019-2020 school year.
Mr. McNichols brings a great deal of experience as an educator and school leader to the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 community. Over the past seventeen years, he has served the Chicago Public Schools as a teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal at Kennedy High School and Dore Elementary School and most recently as the Principal at Clissold Elementary School in the Beverly neighborhood. Mr. McNichols earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Master of Arts in Educational Leadership degree from Chicago State University, and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education. He is currently a doctoral student at Loyola University and is anticipating his Doctor of Education in Administration and Supervision this fall. Mr. McNichols resides in the Mount Greenwood area together with his wife Jill and their four children.
After a thorough search process of over 25 qualified candidates that involved the use of an electronic survey with families and faculty to garner feedback, as well as a face-to-face interview process, Mr. McNichols stood out as a candidate that mirrors many of the needs and values the OLHMS Community expects in a principal. He is a passionate educator, with a strong enthusiasm for learning and a solid local reputation as not only an effective principal, but an instructional leader who greatly prioritizes the value of positive relationships, community presence, and high disciplinary expectations. I am confident that Mr. McNichos will serve to not only continue to foster excellence and pride at OLHMS, but will work diligently to expand upon it and do whatever it takes to foster future success for our middle school students.
Mr. McNichols will officially begin his new position immediately and we are currently in the process of planning opportunities for the OLHMS community to meet Mr. McNichols this coming August.
