Kolmar 5th graders are participating in a really awesome project based learning experience this Spring. As part of their restoring ecosystems unit in Science they have each planted an acorn in hopes of growing their own oak tree! The 5th grade classrooms have turned into their very own greenhouses. Each student has their own planter and their acorns are beginning to sprout! Eventually the goal is to plant these in the ground where they hopefully will one day become full grown trees! The students are learning about ecosystems and how they themselves can impact and change the environment around them. Project based learning allows students to formulate questions, investigate answers, and solve problems over a period of time. It has been a really exciting project and it is still ongoing! The students and staff can’t wait to see where these trees go!
