The cutest little prince and princess you ever did see.
It was a fairytale come to life at Hometown Elementary this week, as kindergarten students capped off their English Language Arts unit on kings and queens with a day of royal festivities fit for nobility.
After weeks of reading stories, learning vocabulary, and exploring the roles of royalty throughout literature, the young scholars celebrated with a themed “Royal Day” on Thursday that brought their lessons to life in the most enchanting way.
Dressed in crowns, cloaks, tiaras, and elegant attire, the students began their day with a royal feast in their classrooms that were transformed for the occasion into a grand banquet. Students dined like kings and queens, practicing their finest table manners and courtly greetings.
Following the feast, the royal court gathered for a ball where students waltzed, twirled to famous songs from the classic. Take “Beauty and the Beast” and their “royal ball.” But the highlight of the day was still to come.
Later that morning, the entire kindergarten class boarded buses for a trip to Moraine Valley Community College to see a live production of Beauty and the Beast. The timeless tale of love, bravery, and inner beauty brought the lessons of royalty and storytelling full circle.
“The students were absolutely captivated by the performance,” said kindergarten teacher Mrs. Sweetser. “It was such a meaningful way to wrap up everything we’ve learned — not only about kings and queens, but about character, kindness, and imagination.”
Parents and staff alike praised the event for its creativity and connection to learning. One parent called it “a magical experience my child will never forget.”
With smiling faces and full hearts, the kindergarteners returned to school ready to begin their next adventure — but for one special day, they truly ruled the kingdom.
