Happy Birthday District 123
Hometown Elementary School recently hosted a fun-filled, nostalgic celebration in honor of the district’s 123rd birthday, inviting students, staff, and families to join in the festivities. The theme of the day, Dancing Through the Decades, brought together a vibrant mix of music, dancing, and creativity that spanned generations.
The celebration kicked off with a unique twist: a Masked Reader Assembly that had everyone laughing and guessing. In an effort to engage the students in a fun and interactive way, staff members dressed up in large inflatable costumes. We had Chicken Little, Clark the Shark, the Cat in the Hat, and the Gingerbread Man. These “masked readers” then read excerpts from popular books and the children loved trying to guess who was in the costumes.
After the assembly, the fun continued with an all-school party, where students and their families gathered for lunch in the school’s cafeteria. The costumes by both parents and students were incredible!!! After lunch families headed to the gymnasium which was filled with energy as families joined their children on the dance floor, moving and grooving to the beat of hits from the 1950s to today. From “Rockin’ Robin” to modern-day pop hits, the dance party was a true Dancing Through the Decades experience.
The day’s festivities were not only a celebration of the district's rich history but also a reminder of the importance of community involvement in education. Families danced, laughed, and made memories that will last a lifetime. Students ate cupcakes, sang Happy Birthday to our district and took pictures with their friends.
At the end of the day, everyone agreed, the 123rd birthday celebration was a huge success. The spirit of togetherness and joy at Hometown Elementary made for an unforgettable celebration.
