Math Night Fun with Families
Students, parents, and teachers gathered for an exciting and educational evening at Hometown Elementary School on Tuesday night, as the school hosted its annual Title 1 Family Math Night. The event was a perfect blend of learning and fun, with hands-on math activities that helped show the importance of math in everyday life. This year’s Math Night was organized by Hometown’s Math Support Teachers Maureen Finnegan and Becky Malone.
The evening included a “Math Hunt” that took families on an interactive journey throughout the school. Teams, made up of students and their parents, searched around the school solving a series of clues. These clues challenged students to solve puzzles and use math skills to fill in their ten frames — a visual tool used to represent numbers.
By working together as a family, students not only strengthened their math skills but also had the chance to bond with their parents and have a great time.
As families moved from station to station, they encountered math challenges that required them to count objects, to solve addition and subtraction problems, and more. Each successful clue filled in part of their ten frames, and once all the frames were completed, participants received a prize! Teachers and staff were on hand to offer guidance, encouragement throughout the event.
Our annual Family Math Night helps strengthen the partnership between school and home. It helps show parents the power of math in everyday life. Hometown Elementary is already planning future events to continue to build the bond between home and school.
