Every Child is an Artist

Every Child is an Artist

Student's artwork fills the hallways of Hometown School.

Art encourages children to think creatively, explore different perspectives, and solve problems through experimentation, boosting cognitive skills.  Activities like drawing, painting, and sculpting help develop fine motor control and hand-eye coordination, which are important for writing and other tasks. Students in Mrs. Evans’ art class have found a safe space for children to express their emotions and process experiences through visual representation. These students love creating art and receiving positive feedback from their art teacher.  Mrs. Evans is building confidence that all children have the ability to become an artist!

Second grade students learned about still life artwork, and created cacti in a pot focusing on color, pattern, shape, and texture!

Third grade students learned about warm/cool colors and positive/ negative space and created an "Under the Sea" themed artwork with their new knowledge. Students placed warm colors inside the positive space (the objects in the picture) and cool colors in the negative space (background/left over space.)

4th grade students learned about the famous artist, Pablo Picasso and his Cubist Abstract Artwork. They learned that Picasso used 2 different perspectives in one picture and that he used color to create mood in his artwork. Students created 2 different perspectives of 2 faces in 1 picture, just like Picasso!

Fifth grade students learned about the famous artist Keith Haring (1958-1990) and created artwork in his artistic style. They learned that Haring's artwork was of active figures that focused on form, shape, movement, and intense colors. His artwork was displayed in the busy New York City subway station. They also learned that Haring was friends with Andy Warhol! Students formed their own active figures using model magic.

The arts are an essential part of education.  From dance to music, from theater to visual arts, the arts help inspire children and can open a world of expression.  It can help build innovative thinkers who are creative, imaginative and thoughtful.  Thank you Mrs. Evans for helping encourage our students to be the best they can be.
