Staff at Hometown Elementary School took a break from their usual school routines for a unique afternoon of creativity and teamwork—through cookie decorating. The event was designed as a team-building exercise to strengthen the bonds between faculty members and offer a fun, stress-relieving break from their daily responsibilities.
The teachers were guided by Jessica, the owner of A Spoonful of Sprinkles, who led them through the basics of decorating cookies. Each staff member was given a set of plain sugar cookies and an assortment of colorful icings. The group began with simple icing work and then moved on to decorating some holiday cookies.
As the event progressed, the teachers quickly found that the activity wasn’t just about decorating cookies—it was about learning how to communicate, share ideas, and collaborate creatively. The atmosphere was lighthearted and filled with laughter, as the staff shared stories and bonding over their individual creations. Some cookies came out looking like professional works of art, while others had more... abstract appeal.
At the end of the event, each staff member took home a box filled with their decorated cookies, a sweet reminder of the afternoon.
“This was exactly what we needed,” said Mrs. Sweetser, kindergarten teacher. “It was a great chance to get to know other teachers beyond our classrooms, and hopefully next year, maybe we should make this a tradition!”
