A new crew of Kindergarten Hornets means a new set of fifth grade buddies. The buddy program was developed several years ago as a way for fifth grade students to mentor Kindergarteners as they enter the school system. Once a week, fifth graders come down to the Kindergarten hall where they have been paired up with a student. These kiddos have the same buddy all year long, so they build a bond with that student. Throughout the year, fifth graders play games, read stories, do art projects and more with their little friends. Fifth graders must learn how to be patient with their little buddy. They learn how to be kind and understanding when they get upset or frustrated. Fifth graders often find themselves being the "teacher" to their little one. This program builds friendships and understanding. Throughout the year, these buddies high five in the hall, run to give hugs and cheer each other on. It is such a wonderful program offered at Hometown....something that every fifth grader looks forward to!
