Math is everywhere! Students were invited to a night full of math fun at our annual Title 1 Math Night. The theme this year was a PJ slumber party. Students and parents were asked to put on their PJs and head on over on April 17 for some mathematical fun. Students and their families came decked out in their comfiest pajamas, bathrobes and slippers for our Number Slumber Party to read larger than life bedtime math-stories from the series Math Start. These stories included stories of missing buttons, menacing multipliers, fractions disguised as other fractions, and a clever carnival trick. Students received their own recording journal and walked throughout the building answering questions about adding and subtraction
Students raced across the great divide, cooked up some fraction pizzas, had their pictures taken at Rabbit's Pajama Party, and enjoyed a bedtime snack of cookies and lemonade after figuring out how kids successfully created a lemonade stand in one of our stories.
Students collaborated with their friends and their families on math problems as they read the bedtime stories with math in them. They tallied, created graphs, solved math puzzles, and even got some exercise with scooters, hippity hops and pool noodles, all while practicing their dividing skills in the gym! Each student also went home with a goody bag of math pencils, stickers, activity books, multiplication bracelets, and their very own number slumber party mini-book. This Title 1 Event helped our families practice math skills while incorporating reading. This event could not have been possible without all the hard work of our staff volunteers and Mrs. Malone and Mrs. Finnegan for planning the event.
