CASE Students Deliver a BOOtiful Surprise!

CASE Students Deliver a BOOtiful Surprise!

Working together, these CASE friends made 145 BOO bags for Hometown staff.

The idea for Boo Bags came from a social media post speech pathologist Mrs. Julie Carey saw on Instagram.  She immediately knew this was a great idea.  She shared it with her colleagues, Ms. Butler and Mrs. Letizia, who were both super supportive in making this happen. Mrs. Carey knew this project would be perfect for the 4th and 5th grade CASE students.  It would help them practice life skills and communications skills.  However, when she thought of this idea, she never dreamed that these kiddos would being filling 145 orders!  Hometown staff ordered boo bags for coworkers and friends, paid $2.00 towards the cost of materials, and filled out a small tag to surprise someone with a BOOtiful treat.  Mrs. Carey was able to purchase the visuals and tags from TPT. (Credit goes to the TPT seller "includedinSPED" for making this available and sharing her creativity on social media!)

Mrs. Carey told us, "Projects like the Boo Bags allow our CASE students to practice functional life skills, such as filling orders, counting quantities and money, sorting, and navigating the building. It also allows them to practice appropriate social skills and communication, which are both skill areas that we work hard everyday to further develop in CASE. It's important for our students to practice these skills in new and different situations, and what better way to do it than while spreading some holiday cheer to the staff! Mrs. Letizia's students loved making the bags, and we hope to do something similar later in the year and maybe include our buddies from gen ed. A big shout out to the Hometown staff for their enthusiasm in supporting this project!"
