Empathy Week at Hannum Was a Sweet Success

Empathy Week buddy activity-sweet or sour friend?

As part of Hannum's PBIS program, students celebrated Empathy Week with a heartwarming buddy activity that brought older and younger students together with a special craft.  The goal?  To help all students better understand what empathy means and how to recognize it in their everyday interactions.

Each older student was paired with a younger buddy, and together they explored real-life social scenarios designed to spark conversations about kindness, understanding, and emotions.  After discussing each situation, buddies worked together to decide if the behavior in the scenario sounded like someone being a "sweet" friend or a "sour" friend.

Together, students created  a pictue of lemonade to symbolize the sweet choices we can all make when we show empathy to others.  The activity not only reinforced the meaning of empathy but also gave students a hands-on way to visualize how their actions can make a difference.

This activity was a sweet success that left students smiling, learning, and feeling more connected than ever!
