Pi Day and 5th grade DARE graduation
This Friday at Hannum, students celebrated Pi Day in the sweetest way possible-by getting the chance to pie their teachers in the face! Students purchased raffle tickets for the opportunity to pie Mrs. Connor, Mrs. Zweig, Mrs. Noisette, Mr. Strickland, or Mrs. Doornbos. Laughter, chanting, and excitement filled the gym as the lucky winners took their turns. Personally, I thought Carlotta Reinoso gave Mr. Strickland an especially messy smashing, but every student accomplished their mission. All proceeds from Pi Day will go toward purchasing prizes for our much-loved Bear Booth, ensuring that students continue to be rewarded for their hard work and positivie behavior.
To piggyback off of the Pi Day fun, Hannum's 5th grade students participated in their DARE graduation. The DARE program is designed to teach students the importance of making responsible choices, leading safe and healthy lives free from bullying, alcohol, substance abuse, and other risky behaviors. As part of the program, all 5th graders wrote a final essay reflecting on what they learned, and six students were chosen to read theirs at the ceremony. Congratulations to Cole Conklin, Ameen Jamaleddin, Mohammed Faiz-Shaikh, Judy Abdel-Salam, Izzy Salihar, and Estella Krivsky for their outstanding work!
A special thank you to Oak Lawn Police Officer Robles for dedicating his time to guiding our Bears toward becoming responsible and successful citizens. This week has been filled with learning, laughter, and celebration-great job Hannum staff and students!!
