Who can sell the most lemonade? Third grade enrichment students finished the novel, "The Lemondade War" by Jaqueline Davies. The story is about two siblings who are competing to sell the most lemonade over the last 5 days of summer break. The book is not just about the contest, but also teaches the business behind how to make a profit from selling lemonade including important business vocabulary like slump, dissolution and under selling. As an extension of this novel, the third graders in enrichment ELA, took on a similar friendly competition with Sward School-a real lemonade war!
Third grade students made all of the business decisions behind selling their lemonade from pricing, flavors, and advertisement and of course some friendly competition with Sward, whose 3rd grade students also read the novel. This competition also has a charitable componenet as well. Mrs. Estand, Hannum Enrichment Teacher, stated that all profits will be given to 'Almost Home Chicago', which is an organization that helps serve the homeless survival items, food, and mental health services, and mentoring.
Although the Hannum Bears feel their location will be victorious, this joint venture between the two schools is a win-win for everyone!!
